The Baltic countries of Estonia and Lithuania and part of some countries that are looking to change their online gambling laws in a positive way. They want to change for one reason… to help increase the revenues needed for the governments with new taxes to ease the effects of the economic fall in their countries.

Players’ rights advocate, Right3bet, has reported that Lithuania will change its law (even though it has been legal to gamble since 2001 but been difficult for online casinos) so that it will become much easier to gamble online with sports books and with online casino games.

Recently Estonia legalized online gambling due to get new sources of revenue after its economy slid by 36%. Their new laws will only come into effect in 2011 but by that time the Estonian online gambling market will be right open for all international gambling companies. Currently Estonians play online with local casino groups.

In Latvia, online gambling has been legal for a long time unlike other Baltic countries. Online casino players in Latvia are required to pay a gambling tax of 10% for playing casino games online.
